The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Plans to Open New Brain and Spine Hospital

According to a recent press release, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center plans to open a new Brain and Spine Hospital in the former Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.  The new Hospital is expected to open in early 2016 and will provide services for patients with neurological disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and other neurologic conditions. The new Brain and Spine Hospital will expand Ohio State’s Neurological Institute and increase the capability to provide more advanced clinical services and innovative research to improve the diagnosis, treatment and cure of neurologic diseases.  The Ohio State University’s President Michael V. Drake, who is also a physician, recently stated, “The new Brain and Spine Hospital will create a ‘neurological cluster’ of disease-specific subspecialty units where multidisciplinary teams are focused on providing comprehensive, coordinated, efficient and compassionate care for the best patient experience and outcomes.”  Earlier is his carreer, Dr. Drake was the director of policy for the five University of California medical schools and other health sciences programs, while continuing to hold an appointment at University of California, San Francisco in the department of ophthalmology at the same time. He then he served as the fifth chancellor of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) just before coming to The Ohio State University in 2014 to be its President.
